Easiest Applesauce Recipe Ever!

This is the easiest homemade applesauce recipe I've ever seen because it cooks in the crockpot with just a few added ingredients.

green apples

My kids love applesauce but the jarred stuff is always hit or miss. I usually end up having to add things to it to make it taste better.

Recently, my kids celebrated "Johnny Appleseed Day" at school. We live very near lots of orchards and at harvest time apples are everywhere, and they're inexpensive. One of them brought home a recipe they used in the classroom to make homemade applesauce.

If you live in an area where apples abound in the fall, this is a very delicious, very easy recipe that you prepare in your crockpot. We tweaked it to adjust for our love of cinnamon and nutmeg.

Easy Applesauce Recipe

You will need:

  • 10-12 large cooking apples. We love Granny Smiths.
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp. nutmeg (optional)
  • 1/2 -1 cup sugar. We end up with about 3/4 cup in ours.
peeled apple chunks

Peel, core and chop up the apples. Put all the ingredients in your crockpot and cook on low for 8 to 10 hours.

Of course, you can adjust the sugar and spice amounts to suit your families tastes.

I've never been a huge fan of apple sauce but this recipe is really good, especially if you make it chunky.

This particular recipe tastes good warm from the pot, or store in a glass jar and refrigerate.
