Butter Cookies Recipe: Grandma's "Love" Cookies

butter cookies

This butter cookies recipe is one from my own childhood. My mother was an avid cookie baker and she baked a batch of these at least once a week. They are the yummiest, butteriest (is that a word???) cookie ever. :-)

Ingredients:

  • 3/4 lb butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 2 1/4 cups flour
  • Colored sugar crystals
Preheat oven to 375
  1. Cream the butter. Continue gradually adding in the sugar. Cream well.
  2. Blend in egg yolks and vanilla.
  3. Gradually add the flour.
  4. Spoon onto ungreased cookie sheet.
  5. Flatten each cookie slightly using a fork dipped in water. The kids can do this part. Just remind them to dip the fork in water before pressing patterns into the cookies or the dough will stick to the fork.
  6. Sprinkle each cookie with some colored sugar crystals

Bake 7-8 minutes. Remove from the oven when the bottom edges start to brown.

For holidays or a special touch add a few drops of food coloring to the batter while blending.

Try making Homemade Pizza for a fast, fun dinner and let everyone have a good time making their own cheesy creations.
