This recipe is the easiest and most versatile cake icing recipe you can use. It goes with just about any flavor cake and kids love it!

caramel candies

No. This recipe doesn't require the use of caramel candies. If you want a recipe that does, take a look at how to make caramel apples. I just put that picture there because I think it's a great picture, and it reminds me of the yummy smooth flavor of caramel.

You get that same buttery goodness from this very easy recipe that requires ingredients you probably already have in your pantry. - You know I love those kinds of recipes.

Ultimate Caramel Icing

You will need:
  • 1/2 cup Butter = 1 stick
  • 1 cup Brown Sugar
  • 1/2 cup Milk
  • 1 tsp. Vanilla
  • Confectioner's Sugar- You can use 1 cup to 1 whole box adjusting the amount of milk as you go.
  • 1 cup Chopped Walnuts- Optional if you have nut lovers in the family.

  1. In a saucepan slowly heat butter and brown sugar together until sugar is dissolved and the mixture is well blended. (At this point you can fold in the walnuts if you're adding them.)
  2. Add the vanilla then alternately add the powdered sugar and milk stirring until it's a smooth pourable consistency.

Pour this icing over our applesauce cake recipe for a special dessert any night of the week.

If you'd like more of a caramel frosting recipe continue to add powdered sugar and small amounts of milk until it becomes thick enough to spread with a knife or spatula.
