Disney World Vacations
Disney World vacations can be an affordable family vacation option. With some planning and preparation your family can experience some classic Disney magic.

When I was about 9 and my sister was 5 our parents took us to Disney World in Orlando Florida for the first time. They surprised us with this trip and needless to say it was the most exciting thing to ever happen in my life at the time. --To this day I still get giddy when I see Snow White. After getting married I traveled to Disney World several times with my husband. Disney World vacations are wonderful for adults traveling with no children. Two years ago, as a divorced single mom, I visited again at the request of my mother, the original Fun Frugal Mom. She wanted to experience Disney World with her grandchildren, my children. My sister and I went along for the ride. :-) Our most recent trip to Disney was August 2008. My sister and I went with my kids. Sadly, our mom passed in December of 2006, five months after our Disney vacation with her. We're all so thankful for those memories.
My parents weren't rich people when they took us on Walt Disney World vacations. When my then-husband and I visited Disney World we were just starting out so we didn't have tons of money either, but with every trip I've taken to Disney everyone has had a great time and every trip was done within a "no frills" budget. During difficult economic times lots of families give up taking any kind of vacation at all, let alone Walt Disney World vacations, but if you'd like to make a little Disney magic happen for your family the information and tips in this section of the site can help you do just that.
I decided to create this Disney World Vacations section on Fun-Frugal-Mom.com for two reasons: - To introduce Walt Disney World and what it has to offer to those of you who've never visited and might be curious about what all the hype is really about.
- To explain how to best choose accommodations, transportation and ticket pricing for your family.

Disney World is located in sunny Orlando Florida. The entire resort is built around 4 separate and distinct theme parks along with two water parks, a "downtown" shopping plaza, and a sports complex thrown in to round out the fun.- Magic Kingdom, the first of the Disney parks to open in Florida back in 1971, encompasses what every child thinks of when they think of Disney World. Cinderellas castle, Princesses, Pirates and Peter Pan. Magic.
- Epcot, originally named Epcot Center, is home to Future World and the World Showcase. This wonderful park gives you the sights, sounds and tastes of the world along with a peek into the future.
- Disney Hollywood Studios, formerly known as Disney's MGM, will transport you back to old nostalgic Hollywood as well as give you a thrill with first hand experience at catastrophic special effects, and stunt shows.
- Disney's Animal Kingdom, the newest of the major parks, focuses on animals in their natural habitats. There is an African Safari and many new attractions and stage shows. It's also the place to have your first face to face with a full size dinosaur, and experience the thrill of Mt. Everest (Disney style).
Each of the four major parks offers a variety of stages productions, daily parades and firework spectaculars all included in the price of your ticket. The Disney World Resort also has two water parks. Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach, each with it's own distinct theme and watery attractions. At Typhoon Lagoon you can actually surf and/or swim with sharks! Yes. Real sharks. Yikes! There is a also a shopping and entertainment plaza called Downtown Disney. Tons of retail stores, entertainment venues, and restaurants, all nestled together in a waterfront setting, most with familiar and popular names. Disney's Wide World of Sports complex includes a 9500 seat baseball stadium (Atlanta Braves Spring Training Home), a 5000 seat Fieldhouse, and a 10 court tennis complex. There is a track and field complex, 5 multi-use outdoor sports fields, and a softball quadroplex. Throughout the year this enormous sports complex host many professional and amateur sporting events for fans and athletes of all ages. Because we're being frugal we'll focus on all the "must see" things at Walt Disney World and the most economical ways to have a great time with your family there.
My family just loves it there, so my sister and I have spent hours researching ways to make it affordable for us to vacation at WDW. We've learned so much that we want to pass these tips for Disney World Vacations on to you. All of this information is based on lots of research and personal experience. I'll even sprinkle it with a little pixie dust for good measure.
Now seems like the perfect time to mention that this is no way "official" Disney information. I'm not getting paid by Disney in any way to rave about them..... :-) All my raving is genuine, but that also means I'll be completely honest with my opinions. There are some not so magical things and I'll talk about those too.
