The MOST Frugal Family Fun Crafts, Activities, and Neat Stuff to Do
Rainbow Macaroni Beads: Just string some brightly colored elbow macaroni and ziti into necklaces, bracelets, and anything your kids can think of!
Dish Soap Bubble Recipes: Lots of bubbles equal lots of giggles so make a big batch. This is something your kids will ask for again and again. :)
Salt Dough Recipe: This family favorite of ours requires three ingredients I bet you already have on hand. A safe, inexpensive, water soluble alternative to Play Doh. (Ever try to get Play Doh out of carpet?? It's not pretty.)
Baking Soda Volcano: With a bowl full of salt dough and a little science savvy. Your kids will think it's a total blast......Literally. :) Or...try a paper mache volcano instead.
(Click here to see other ways to use baking soda around your house.)
Family Time Capsule: This is a super fun way to preserve family memories for when the kids are old enough to reminisce, or for future generations to find. Include some of your kid's projects in the time capsule.
Play Dough Recipe: The easiest, most frugal recipe you'll find. Oatmeal. Flour. Water. Done! (Another washable alternative to the "real" thing.)
Treasure Box: Super easy and fun to make a decorated treasure box is great for those precious little bits and pieces that kids hold dear. If you're having a party make a big one and use it as the prize box.
Learn How to Make Butter: "Churning" cream is something lots of kids do in school. Try this fun technique at home and make your own tasty treat. It really does work but you have to be patient.
Sprout an Avocado Tree: Everyone is eating avocados now. They're healthy, and yummy. My kids love this very basic guacamole salsa recipe. So next time you make some, save the pit and try your hand a making it sprout roots.
Craft Paper Gift Wrap: Next gift giving occasion have your kids get creative and frugal at the same time by making their own gift wrap.
Making Ice Cream In a Bag: Not quite a craft, but not just a recipe either, this science experiment is alot of fun and produces delicious results.
Make Rock Candy: Actually a kitchen science experiment on how to grow crystals, this lesson also creates and old fashioned sweet treat.
Tie Dye Some T-Shirts: Play with color and learn the basics of simple tie die. Some inexpensive cotton T's become works of art, and no two are ever the same.
Make Paper Mache: and get creative with one of the must frugal family fun crafts there is. Try out our paper mache projects or just look them over to get some inspiration.
For the times when my kids want to try something beyond what's stashed in our craft supply box -- or the pantry, I look for ready made kits.
