Hot Cocoa Mix Recipe

Making homemade cocoa mix is a lot of fun. Especially around the holidays.

This recipe is the result of tweaking and combining different recipes.

Just like I did, you can start with this then tweak the amounts until you find the best taste for your family.

Hot Chocolate Recipe

cup of hot cocoa

You will need:

  • 2 cups Instant Dried Milk
  • 2 cups Powdered Sugar
  • 1 cup Cocoa Powder
  • 1/3 cup Powdered Creamer
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Cornstarch
  • 1 pinch (1/8 teaspoon) Cayenne Pepper- Optional

The pinch of cayenne pepper cuts the bitterness of the cocoa and, in my opinion, adds richness, which is great on a cold winter night. Thanks to the Food Network for that.

Combine all the ingredients and blend well.

Store in an air tight cannister. Start with 3 heaping tablespoons per 8 oz. of hot water and add more to taste.

Packed in cannisters with a small bag of mini-marshmallows, and candy canes for stirring, this recipe makes a very nice frugal Christmas gift.
