A Quick to make Old Fashioned Treat

magic cookie bars

These chocolatey coconut cookie bars were a holiday treat at my house growing up. I saw Paula Dean make them on the Food Network - She calls them 5 layer bars- and realized they're so easy to make I could whip up a batch for my kids that afternoon.

These bars were a big hit.

You will need:

  • 1 1/2 cups Graham Cracker Crumbs
  • 1 Stick of Butter
  • 1 14oz can Sweetened Condensed Milk
  • 1 1/2 cups Chocolate Chips
  • 1 cup Butterscotch Chips (yum)
  • 1 cup Sweetened Flaked Coconut
  • 1/2 cup Chopped Pecans

Preheat oven to 350.

  1. To make graham cracker crumbs put graham crackers in a zipper baggie and pound with the bottom of a small sauce pan.
  2. Melt the butter and mix into the graham cracker crumbs.
  3. Press the butter/crumb mixture into the bottom of a 9x13 baking pan.
  4. Sprinkle all of the chips, the pecans and the coconut flakes over the crumb crust. Then pour the condensed milk evenly over the whole thing.
  5. Bake at 350 for 30 minutes. Let cool completely before cutting.
