Old Fashioned Recipe for Lemonade

This Country Style Recipe for Lemonade takes a little more work because boiling is required. But it's the best lemonade recipe made with simple syrup and bits of pulp for that old fashioned homemade lemonade flavor.

Old Fashioned Country Lemonade

Try serving this fresh lemonade recipe in sugar frosted glasses, for an added blast of icy goodness.

For this recipe you will need:
  • 8 to 10 medium to large lemons. This should get about 1 1/2 cups of lemon juice.
  • 5 cups Water
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  1. Use room temperature lemons to make them easier to juice. Roll the lemons on a countertop using your palm to soften them up and make them easier to juice.

  2. Juice the lemons and take the seeds out, using a strainer or sieve if you also want it pulp free, but true country style lemonade has at least some pulp bits in it. :)

  3. Bring 1 cup of the water to a boil in a saucepan and slowly add the sugar. Cook slowly over a low heat, stirring gently until all the sugar is dissolved.

  4. Remove this mixture from the heat and add the lemon juice while it's still warm. This makes a lemon syrup. I usually have extra lemon juice on hand in case there is a need to adjust the flavor later. Put the syrup in the fridge to cool down completely.

  5. Once the syrup is cooled you're ready to make lemonade. Add the syrup to the other 4 1/2 cups of ice cold water. This makes a decent sized pitcher of lemonade. Add sugar if it's too tart. Add more water or lemon juice if you find it too sweet.

Make your lemonade even yummier by adding some sliced lemon and frozen lemonade ice cubes to the pitcher. For added color and fruity appeal add some whole strawberries or orange slices.

How to Sugar Frost Your Lemonade Glasses

A chic touch for adult guests, or a sweet treat for your kids, this trick costs practically nothing, and takes no time, but it's sure to impress. It doesn't matter which recipe for lemonade you use.

* Use your fanciest glasses for this.

  1. Wash and dry your glasses.
  2. Pour some granulated sugar in a dish. Just about 1/4 inch deep.
  3. Cut up a lemon into wedges.
  4. Rub a lemon wedge around the rim of each glass making sure to squeeze lemon juice onto the rim, then immediately dip the rim in the sugar to coat the lemon juice then immediately put the glass in the freezer.

10 to 15 minutes in the freezer is usually enough time to set the sugar and get the glasses frosty cold.

DO NOT DO THIS WITH CRYSTAL, as the freezer could cause it to crack. Glasses made from tempered glass, or even plastic, are your safest bet for this trick.

Once your sugar frosted glasses are ready just add some ice and serve up your Country Style Lemonade.
