Texas Chili Recipe

This Texas Chili recipe has quickly become a family favorite. It tastes even better the next day so make sure you make a lot. :-)

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb ground Beef, ground Turkey, or any finely chopped leftover meats you may have in your fridge.
  • 1 15-16 oz. can Red Kidney Beans undrained ( We like the Dark Red)
  • 1 14-15oz. can Diced Tomatoes undrained (We use the ones flavored with green chiles or roasted garlic, but plain is fine.)
  • 1 small Onion finely chopped
  • 1 package of McCormick Mild Chili Seasoning (If you want more kick use McCormick Original Chili Seasoning)
  • Optional: 1 tblsp. Brown Sugar if you want a sweeter more barbeque type flavor.

    1. Brown meat in a large skillet or in the bottom of a medium sized pot. If you're using turkey or chicken add a tablespoon of oil the bottom of the pot to prevent sticking. Add the onion as meat is browning.
    2. Stir in seasoning mix, beans, and tomatoes. Bring to a boil then reduce heat to very low and let simmer for 10-15 minutes. Stir occassionally. Leave uncovered if you want a slightly thicker chili.

Top this chili with any combination of grated cheddar, sour cream, crushed tortilla chips or chopped scallions.

You can also use it to top hotdogs, baked potatoes, french fries or salads.

Serve with warm cornbread to make the meal.
